Scope
This document specifies the format and generation rules for generating 128-bit identifiers, which are guaranteed to be globally unique, or likely to be globally unique.
Complying with this document to generate a new universally unique identifier (UUID) every 100 ns is suitable for temporary use and can also serve as a permanent identifier.
This document originates from early non-standard specifications of UUID and its generation, and is technically equivalent to these early specifications.
This document also specifies and permits the use of UUID as the primary value (defined as Unicode labels) corresponding to each arc under the joint UUID arc. This allows users to generate and use such arcs without any registration procedures.
This document also specifies and permits the use of UUID to form Uniform Resource Names (URNs).
