This document specifies the tolerance grading system for the manufacture and quality assessment of the tooth surfaces of single involute cylindrical gears, and also defines the terms of various tooth surface tolerances, the structure of the tooth surface tolerance grading system, and its permissible values. This document provides tolerance values for reference by both gear suppliers and customers. According to the order of increasing tolerance values, 11 tooth surface tolerance grades are defined, ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 11. 5.3 provides formulae for calculating tolerance values, with the application scope as follows: --5≤z≤1,000; --5 mm≤d≤15,000 mm; --0.5 mm≤mn≤70 mm; --4 mm≤b≤1,200 mm; --β≤45°. Where: z -- number of teeth; d -- pitch circle diameter; mn -- normal module; b -- tooth width (axial); β -- helix angle. For mandatory and optional measurement methods, see Chapter 4.
