This document specifies the basic requirements, functional requirements, testing and verification, and marking and user manuals for electrical safety devices that control potential ignition sources in explosion-proof equipment. This document applies to electrical safety devices that perform safety functions to control potential ignition sources in electrical or non-electrical explosion-proof equipment in explosive environments. This document provides guidance for equipment manufacturers, where the use of electrical safety devices to reduce potential ignition sources in explosion-proof equipment in explosive environments becomes a potential effective ignition source. This document can also be applied to combinations of components that perform safety functions, such as: -- sensors; -- logic systems; -- final elements. This document can also be used for independent assessment of safety devices for specific explosion-proof equipment designs. Safety devices can serve as a measure to achieve the required equipment protection level (EPL) for explosion-proof equipment against potential ignition sources. The combination of safety devices and explosion-proof equipment will comply with the relevant standards for EPL in GB/T 3836 (all parts). However, increasing the EPL of explosion-proof equipment by simply adding safety devices is beyond the scope of this document. This document does not apply to: -- mechanical control devices, such as pressure relief valves, mechanical speed regulators, and other mechanical safety devices; -- the use of gas detection; -- control devices that prevent the formation of explosive environments, such as inerting systems and ventilation systems; -- explosion mitigation. Note: Some potential ignition sources may not be operable when controlled by safety devices.
