This document specifies the magnetic particle inspection requirements for the surface defects of seamless and welded ferromagnetic steel pipes, as well as the end face/bevel defects at the pipe ends. It also stipulates the inspection requirements for all or part of the outer surface of steel pipes. Upon mutual agreement between the buyer and the manufacturer, it can be applied to the inspection of the inner surface within a limited length (depending on the diameter of the steel pipe) from the pipe ends. When applicable, this document can be used to locate external surface defects detected by other non-destructive testing methods (such as ultrasonic testing) before grinding, and to confirm that the defects have been completely removed after grinding. It specifies the inspection requirements for layered defects at the end face/bevel of both ends of plain-end pipes and bevel-faced pipes, which may affect subsequent manufacturing and inspection (such as welding and ultrasonic inspection of welds). This document is applicable to the inspection of layered defects and other defects at the end face/bevel. In this case, the magnetic field direction should be as perpendicular as possible to the direction of the defect being inspected. It is also applicable to the inspection of hollow components.
