This document applies to inductive and capacitive proximity switches that can detect the presence or absence of metallic and/or non-metallic objects; ultrasonic proximity switches that can detect the presence or absence of objects that reflect sound; photoelectric proximity switches that can detect the presence or absence of objects; and non-mechanical magnetic proximity switches that can detect the presence or absence of objects with magnetic fields.
The products covered by this document do not have guaranteed functionality under fault conditions. Requirements for proximity switches with guaranteed functionality are specified in IEC 60947-5-3, and additional requirements must also be met.
The aforementioned proximity switches are independent and equipped with semiconductor switching elements, suitable for connecting circuits with a rated voltage of no more than 250 V AC (50 Hz or 60 Hz) or 300 V DC.

Special applications (such as corrosive environments) may result in additional requirements.
This document does not apply to proximity switches with analog output.
