Scope

This standard specifies the measurement methods for the dielectric loss factor, relative permittivity, and DC resistivity of liquid insulating materials at the test temperature. This standard is primarily used for reference testing of unused liquids, but it is also applicable to liquids in transformers, cables, and other electrical equipment that are in operation. However, this standard only applies to single-phase liquids. When conducting routine measurements, simplified methods and the methods described in Appendix C can be used. For non-hydrocarbon insulating liquids, other cleaning methods are required.
