GB/T 5972-2016 Cranes—Wire ropes—Care and maintenance,inspection and discard
Basic Information
Scope
This standard specifies the general requirements for the maintenance, inspection, and scrapping of steel wire ropes used in cranes and electric hoists. This standard applies to steel wire ropes used in the following types of cranes: a) Cable and gantry cranes; b) Boom cranes (column-type, wall-type, or bicycle-type); c) Deck cranes; d) Mast and rope-type mast cranes; e) Rigid outrigger mast cranes; f) Floating cranes; g) Mobile cranes; h) Bridge cranes; i) Gantry cranes or semi-gantry cranes; j) Portal cranes or semi-portal cranes; k) Railway cranes; l) Tower cranes; m) Offshore cranes, i.e., cranes installed on fixed structures supported by the seabed or on floating devices supported by buoyancy. Note: The definitions of various types of cranes are referred to in GB/T 6974.1. This standard applies to steel wire ropes used on manually, electrically, or hydraulically driven cranes for hook, grab, electromagnetic chuck, steel drum, excavation, or stacking operations. This standard also applies to steel wire ropes used in electric hoists and overhead cranes. For steel wire ropes used in single-layer wound drums, when synthetic materials are used as pulleys or metal pulleys with synthetic rope groove linings, significant internal breakage will occur before visible breakage and substantial wear appear on the surface of the steel wire rope. Based on this fact, this standard does not provide scrapping criteria for this application combination.
