GB/T 5972-2023 Cranes—Wire ropes—Care and maintenance,inspection and discard

Scope

This document specifies the general requirements for the maintenance, inspection, and scrapping of steel wire ropes used in cranes and hoists.
In addition to providing guidance on storage, handling, installation, and maintenance, this document also sets forth scrapping requirements for multi-layered wound steel wire ropes. Field experience and tests have shown that the degree of deterioration in the overlapping and cross-wound areas of steel wire ropes on drums is significantly higher than in other parts of the steel wire rope system.
This document also provides more practical scrapping requirements, covering reductions in steel wire rope diameter and corrosion, and provides a method for evaluating the comprehensive impact of deterioration of steel wire ropes at any location.
This document is applicable to steel wire ropes used on the following types of cranes:
a) Cable cranes and gantry cable cranes;
b) Boom cranes (column-type, wall-type, and bicycle-type);
c) Deck cranes;
d) Cable-type mast cranes;
e) Rigid outrigger-type mast cranes;
f) Floating cranes;
g) Mobile cranes;
h) Bridge cranes;
i) Gantry cranes and semi-gantry cranes;
j) Portal cranes and semi-portal cranes;
k) Railway cranes;
l) Tower cranes;
m) Offshore cranes, namely cranes installed on fixed structures supported by the seabed or on floating devices supported by buoyancy.

This document is applicable to steel wire ropes used on manually, electrically, or hydraulically driven cranes, winches, and hoists for hook, grab, electromagnetic chuck, ladle, excavation, or stacking operations.
This document is also applicable to steel wire ropes for lifting trolleys.
Note: For steel wire ropes used on single-layered wound drums, a large number of broken wires internally occur before visible broken wire
