Scope

This standard specifies the radiation level control, safety facilities, operation, monitoring and inspection, and other radiation protection requirements for cargo/vehicle radiation inspection systems (hereinafter referred to as inspection systems).
This standard applies to inspection systems that use the following types of radiation to scan and image cargo, transport vehicles, and freight trains:
—— X-rays generated by accelerators (with a maximum electron energy of less than 10 MeV);
—— γ-rays released by sealed radioactive sources;
—— Fast neutrons generated by (DD) and (DT) reactions.
This standard does not apply to inspection systems that use X-ray machines, backscatter-type inspection systems, and computed tomography inspection systems.
