Scope

This standard specifies the terms and definitions, safety requirements, test methods, packaging methods, and product information for soothers for infants and young children.
This standard applies to products assembled into soothers for infants and young children or used as soothers for infants and young children, except for devices marketed for medical purposes.
This standard does not apply to similar products designed for specialized medical use by physicians. For example, those intended for use in cases of Pierre Robin syndrome or premature infants. These special circumstances are described in Informative Annex A.
This standard does not apply to pacifiers used for feeding purposes.
