Scope

This standard specifies the terms and definitions, requirements, test methods, and inspection rules for ultrasound Doppler fetal heart rate monitors (also known as "fetal heart sound monitors" or "fetal stethoscopes"). This standard applies to ultrasound Doppler fetal heart rate detectors (hereinafter referred to as "instruments") that obtain fetal heart movement information from the pregnant woman's abdomen based on the Doppler principle. This standard does not apply to continuous fetal heart rate monitoring devices that are attached to the pregnant woman's abdomen and use multi-element flat ultrasound Doppler transducers.
