Scope

This specification is part of the VXI Bus series of specifications and defines a TCP/IP-IEEE 488.1 interface device. The only network directly mentioned in this specification is one that supports the Internet Protocol Suite. The technology defined in this specification can be applied to other networks, such as those supporting the OSI protocol standard, but this section does not address the relevant conversions. This specification uses Open Network Computing (ONC) remote procedure calls (RPC) at the upper layer of the Internet Protocol Suite. The TCP/IP-IEEE 488.1 interface device can also support other network protocols.
