本标准规定了使用恒定拉伸速度(20 mm/min)的试验仪器测定纸和纸板抗张强度、断裂时伸长率、裂断长和抗张能量吸收的方法，并规定了抗张指数、抗张能量吸收指数和弹性模量的计算公式。
本标准适用于除瓦楞纸板外的所有纸和纸板。
