Scope

This standard specifies the requirements for the classification of thunderstorm days in the areas where highway electromechanical systems are located, the division of lightning protection zones, the design and construction of protection against direct lightning strikes and lightning electromagnetic pulses, and the inspection and maintenance of lightning protection devices.
This standard applies to the lightning protection design, construction, inspection, and maintenance of new, renovated, and expanded highway electromechanical systems.
