Scope

This section specifies a verification model and the general requirements and constraints for entity verification mechanisms that employ security technologies. These mechanisms are used to confirm that an entity is the one it claims to be. The entity to be verified proves its identity by demonstrating that it indeed knows a secret. These mechanisms define the exchange of information between entities and, if necessary, with a trusted third party.
