Scope

This standard specifies a method for measuring the electrical conductivity and resistance of coatings.
This standard is applicable to the determination of the electrical conductivity of water-based paints and varnishes, including electrophoretic coatings, and the determination of the electrical resistance of solvent-based paints and varnishes. If required, the electrical resistance of the coatings can be calculated from the measured electrical conductivity or resistance.
When an electric field is present, electrical conductivity can affect the applicability of coatings, which is particularly important for electrophoretic coatings and coatings applied by electrostatic spraying.
