Scope

This part is applicable to various types of impact and reaction turbines, storage pumps, or pump-turbines tested under laboratory conditions. This part is applicable to models corresponding to prototypes with a unit power of more than 10 MW or a nominal diameter of more than 3.3 m. It is generally not appropriate to fully apply the steps specified in this part to turbines with smaller unit power or diameter, but if agreed upon by both the supplier and the buyer, this part can also be applied to such machinery. In this part, the term "turbine" includes pump-turbines operating as turbines, and the term "pump" includes pump-turbines operating as pumps. Except for matters related to testing, this part does not include matters of purely commercial interest. As long as the structure or components of the machinery do not affect the performance of the model or the relationship between the model and the prototype, this part does not address the detailed structure of the machinery or the mechanical performance of its components.
