Scope

This document describes a method for determining the content of free α-, β-, γ-, and δ-tocopherols and tocotrienols in animal and vegetable oils using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
This document is applicable to the determination of tocopherols and tocotrienols in animal and vegetable oils. For products containing tocopherol esters and tocotrienol esters, saponification treatment should be performed first.
This document is not applicable to milk and dairy products (including fats derived from milk and dairy products).
Note: A suitable method for low-temperature saponification is described in Appendix B.
