Scope

This document specifies the general requirements for the performance of object detection systems (ODSs) and their visual aids (VAs) used on earthmoving machinery, as well as the description methods for evaluation and testing, including the following aspects:
—— Monitoring and/or visualizing objects, including people, in the monitored area;
—— Providing visual and/or auditory alerts to test personnel and people in the monitored area (if applicable);
—— Ensuring the reliability of system operation;
—— Ensuring the compatibility and environmental description of the system.
This document applies to earthmoving machinery as defined in ISO 6165. ODSs and/or VAs can be used to enhance the driver's direct field of vision (see ISO 5006) or indirect field of vision when using surveillance mirrors (see ISO 14401). Additionally, ODSs and/or VAs can be used to provide additional methods for object detection or field of vision, such as considering the limitations of ergonomics on the effectiveness of direct field of vision and avoiding repeated head and upper body movements.
