Scope

This standard applies to the determination of serious aviation accidents, general aviation accidents, ground aviation accidents, and general aviation accident symptoms in civil aircraft (hereinafter referred to as "aircraft"). This standard does not apply to the determination of accident symptoms in aircraft used for national rescue, disaster relief, aerial sports, personal recreational flights, or test flights before obtaining an individual airworthiness certificate. This standard does not apply to situations such as illegal aircraft flights or intentional sabotage.
