GB/T 17844-2025 Small craft—Remote mechanical steering systems
Basic Information
Scope
This document specifies the design, construction, installation, and testing requirements for remote mechanical steering systems and output rod connection points for small boats, which can be used to connect the boat's rudder, water jet propulsion system, outboard engine, and stern engine drive engine.
This document applies to three different types of steering systems used on various types of boats:
—— Standard steering systems, suitable for small boats equipped with a single or dual outboard engine (with a total power output exceeding 15 kW) and a rudder, stern engine drive, and water jet propulsion system;
—— Lightweight steering systems, suitable for small boats equipped with a single outboard engine with a power output of 15 kW to 40 kW;
—— Small water jet steering systems, excluding personal watercraft.
Note: Standard and lightweight steering systems are mechanically interchangeable. Standard steering systems can be used on boats designed for lightweight steering systems. However, lightweight steering systems are not used on boats requiring standard steering systems. Small water jet steering systems are mechanically distinct from the previous two systems and are only used on small water jet propulsion boats defined in this document.
This document does not address emergency steering methods for boats.
