Scope

This document specifies the methods for on-site measurement and evaluation of gas and particulate emissions from reciprocating internal combustion engines.
This document is applicable to reciprocating internal combustion engines used in non-road machinery, industrial equipment, ship installations, generator sets, diesel rail traction, or similar machinery that require on-site measurement. Chapter 4 is applicable to on-site measurement of gas or particulate emissions in discrete steady-state tests at a single operating point or based on weighted cycles. Chapter 5 is applicable to situations requiring the use of portable emission measurement systems (PEMS) to evaluate the gas emission performance of typical in-use engines under field conditions.
Note: "Reciprocating internal combustion engines" are hereinafter referred to as "engines".
