Scope

This document describes the method of comparing the precision values achieved in daily monitoring tests with the precision values published in the test method standards, using data from proficiency testing programs involving daily users of the method standards.
This document is applicable to proficiency testing programs based on standard test methods, targeting (presumed) homogeneous petroleum and related products, with data approximating a normal distribution. This document is only applicable to (presumed) long-term and transport-stable samples.
This document provides a method for comparing the standard deviations obtained in the proficiency testing program under reproducible conditions with the published values.
The significance of this comparison is to determine whether the published reproducible precision represents the realistic values obtained by daily participants in the proficiency testing program.
Appendix A provides guidelines for monitoring the long-term performance of individual participants using the z-value of the proficiency testing program.
