GB/T 15000.8-2023 Directives for the work of reference materials—Part 8:Good practice in using reference materials

Scope

1.1 This document describes the standardized use of reference materials (RMs), particularly certified reference materials (CRMs), in measurement processes, including the evaluation of measurement method precision and accuracy, quality control, assigning values to other materials, calibration, and establishing agreed reference scales. This document also addresses the various applications of the key characteristics of different types of RMs.
1.2 The characteristic values of CRMs are metrologically traceable to international reference standards or other measurement standards. Although the characteristic values of RMs other than CRMs are typically not traceable to such standards, such RMs can still be used for partial evaluation of measurement procedures, including assessing different levels of precision.
1.3 The main applications of RMs include precision control (Chapter 8), bias evaluation (Chapter 9), calibration (Chapter 10), preparation of calibration RMs (Chapter 11), and maintaining agreed reference scales (Chapter 12).
Note: Not all types of RMs can be used for all of the above applications.
1.4 ISO Guide 341 ［1］ and ISO Guide 35 ［2］ also address the preparation of calibration reference materials. This document only applies to the preparation and assignment of values to small quantities of RMs for laboratory equipment calibration, and not to the large-scale production of RMs for distribution purposes, which is covered in ISO Guide 34 and ISO Guide 35.
1.5 This document does not address activities such as the development of working standards for natural gas analysis, clinical chemistry, and the pharmaceutical industry. Such activities are covered in ISO Guide 34 and ISO Guide 35.
