声表面波（SAW)谐振器广泛应用于各种领域中：盒式磁带录像机（VCR) 用射频（RF)转换器、有线电视（CATV)用本机振荡器、测量设备、遥控等。同时，SAW谐振器也适用于窄带宽滤波器，本文件仅限于SAW谐振器在振荡器的应用。本文件的目的既不是进行理论解释，也不是尝试涵盖实际情况下所有可能发生的问题，本文件的侧重点在于一些更基础的问题，即用户为一项新的应用采购SAW谐振器前宜考虑的问题，防止SAW谐振器性能不理想，以保障用户的利益。本文件以及国家标准或由制造商发行的详细规范，规定了谐振频率、品质因数、动态电阻和并联电容等的有效组合。上述规范包括了很大一部分具有标准性能的SAW谐振器。不能过分强调用户在任何情况下都参照这些规范来选择SAW谐振器，如果可行，用户可以稍微改变其电路，以便能采用标准谐振器，特别是在对标称频率的选择上。
