Scope

This standard specifies the definition, models, design requirements, performance requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation, and storage of firefighters' heat-resistant protective clothing. This standard applies to protective clothing worn by firefighters when they are exposed to strong radiant heat in the vicinity of the flame zone during fire-fighting and rescue operations (hereinafter referred to as heat-resistant suits). This standard does not apply to protective clothing worn by firefighters when they enter the flame zone and come into contact with flames during fire-fighting and rescue operations, or when they handle radioactive substances, biological substances, and dangerous chemicals.
