Basic Information
Scope
This document provides guidelines for verifying sensory claims and promotional statements on food and non-food products, explaining the differences between sensory claims and other types of claims, the classification of sensory claims, examples of different types of sensory claims, and examples of sensory claim verification.
This document is applicable to the verification of product sensory claims.
This document is not applicable to the following situations:
——Specific or detailed requirements of the test methods used to support sensory claims;
——Fact-based claims about the product's origin, ingredients, processing, and nutritional content;
——Fact-based claims about the product's technical characteristics;
——Claims about the product's health benefits, medical and therapeutic effects, physiological benefits, or structural or functional advantages when the product is consumed or used;
——Claims that use instruments to evaluate the product's characteristics or performance (instrumental evaluation refers to evaluating the product's characteristics or performance using instruments instead of evaluators or test subjects);
——Claims for service-related products (such as house cleaning services, airline services, automotive services, etc.);
——Claims for large/durable consumer goods (such as cars, refrigerators, stoves, etc.).
