Scope

This document provides terminology and guidelines for collision warning and avoidance principles, applicable to:
—— Earthmoving machinery defined in ISO 6165;
—— Mobile underground mining machinery defined in ISO 19296;
—— Road construction machinery defined in ISO 22242.
This document provides general requirements for object monitoring, operator warnings, automatic intervention controls for collision avoidance, and test procedures. It is intended to be used in conjunction with other components, including requirements for collision warning and avoidance systems, and the determination of risk areas and risk levels. The use case section of the ISO 21815 series of standards defines specific requirements and definitions for particular types of machines.
This document covers collision avoidance through deceleration or motion suppression, and does not include collision avoidance through automatic steering (e.g., steering away from the intended target).
The systems described in this document are intended solely to assist operators in operating the machines, and the responsibility for safe operation of the machines remains with the operators.
This document does not apply to collision warning and avoidance systems installed on machines prior to the publication date.
