Scope
This part of GB/T 9279 specifies a method for measuring the scratch resistance of a single or composite coating system of color paints, varnishes, or related products by continuously increasing the load applied to the tip of a scratch needle.
It has been confirmed that this test method is useful for comparing the scratch resistance of different coatings. This test method is very useful for determining the relative rank of a series of painted specimens that show significant differences in scratch resistance.
Neither this part nor ISO 1518-1 specifies the use of a curved scratch needle method, which is specified in ISO 12137. The choice between the three methods will depend on the specific practical situation.
