Scope

This standard specifies the use of instruments that emit and receive longitudinal ultrasonic pulses, and employs liquid as a coupling agent and immersion or spraying techniques to detect discontinuities in materials by ultrasonic inspection.
This standard applies to materials that can transmit sound waves at appropriate frequencies, and can be immersed in a liquid coupling agent during inspection, or can be inspected by controlling the coupling liquid column or liquid flow between the probe and the material being inspected.
