Scope

This standard specifies an empirical test procedure for evaluating the resistance of coatings on paints, varnishes, and related products to cracking or peeling from the metal substrate under standard conditions after gradual deformation due to indentation. This standard applies to single-coat or composite coating systems. For composite coating systems, each layer can be tested separately or the entire system can be tested. The test methods can be carried out as follows: --- Conduct the test according to the specified indentation depth, and evaluate it as "pass/fail" based on whether it meets specific requirements; --- Gradually increase the indentation depth to determine the minimum depth at which the coating first begins to crack or peel from the substrate.
