Scope

This standard specifies the method for determining the salt content in crude oil using potentiometric titration.
This standard is applicable to the determination of salt content (mass fraction) in crude oil ranging from 0.0005% to 0.15%, as well as heavy petroleum products such as residual oil and fuel oil. This standard is also applicable to determining whether used turbine oil and marine fuel oil have been contaminated by seawater.
