本文件规定了色度学中使用的三种CIE标准照明体：用于表示典型钨丝照明的CIE标准照明体A，用于表示相关色温约为6 500 K平均日光的CIE标准照明体D65，以及用于表示相关色温约为5 000 K日光的CIE标准照明体D50。本文件中规定了三种照明体的相对光谱功率分布值。
本文件适用于物体(材料)反射、透射或者散射的颜色目视评估与客观测量等相关领域，也适用于模拟照明体的光源制造与应用等相关领域。
