Scope

This standard applies to the acquisition of systems and software products, as well as services. It applies to the supply, development, operation, and maintenance of software products, and to the software components of firmware. This standard can be implemented both internally and externally within an organization. It includes those aspects of system definition that are necessary to provide an environment for software products and services.
