Scope

This document specifies alternative methods to the default methods. Some of these methods may reduce overall accuracy but improve the applicability of the standard. Some methods may produce the same or higher overall accuracy, but include elements that have not yet been widely applied to commercial shipping.
The general principles and performance indicators defined in this document apply to all types of ships equipped with fixed-pitch propellers, with the aim of comparing changes in the performance of the same ship's hull and propellers over time.
Chapter 4 of this document specifies alternative methods for measuring parameters (primary and secondary parameters), Chapter 5 specifies alternative measurement procedures (including alternative reference periods and evaluation periods), Chapter 6 specifies the calculation of performance indicators, and Chapter 7 specifies the evaluation of the accuracy of performance indicators. It is structured similarly to GB/T 40523.2-2021 to facilitate cross-referencing between the two standards.
Note: Whether other configurations (such as variable-pitch propellers) are supported will be revised in future standards as needed.
