Scope

This document establishes various detailed models for monitoring the following objects in media libraries:
—— Libraries,
—— Drives,
—— Converter devices,
—— Slots,
—— Data read/write slots,
—— Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) and SCSI and Fibre Channel (FC) target ports,
—— Physical tapes,
—— Physical packages,
—— Media boxes.
Generally, CIM clients can monitor the normal performance and status of the above-mentioned objects and provide alerts, status changes, and lifecycle CIM indications. Additionally, clients can control the operation of media in libraries that comply with this document.
This document is applicable to the design, development, and maintenance of media library management architectures in distributed storage devices.
Partitioned tape libraries and virtual tape libraries will be presented in subsequent versions of the document. Note that the experimental sub-configuration files used to model partitioned tape libraries and virtual tape libraries in previous versions of this document have been withdrawn, so they are omitted from the current document.
