GB/T 15972.54-2008 Specifications for optical fibre test methods—Part 54:Measurement methods and test procedures for environmental characteristics—Gamma irradiation
Basic Information
Scope
This part of GB/T 15972 specifies the measurement methods and test procedures for evaluating the performance of optical fibers and optical cables in a given gamma irradiation environment.
This part is applicable to determining the irradiation-induced attenuation values of A1 class, A2 class multimode optical fibers and B class single-mode optical fibers exposed to gamma irradiation.
This part is not applicable to the measurement of non-light-transmitting components in optical cables. If the cable materials deteriorate when exposed to irradiation, further research and alternative measurement methods are needed.
Note: The applicability of this test to other types of optical fibers is under investigation. For a background description, see Appendix A, and for detailed background information, see IEC/TR 62283.
