Basic Information
Scope
This document provides information on existing system-level high-power electromagnetic pulse (HPEM) simulators worldwide and the relevant details required for their use as immunity testing and verification equipment in accordance with the IEC 61000 series of standards. HPEM simulators capable of conducting conducted immunity or sensitivity tests will be outlined in the following sections. In this document, HPEM simulators include narrowband microwave test equipment and wideband simulators that emit high-power electromagnetic fields. IEC 61000-2-13 defines HPEM as radiation fields with a peak power density greater than 26 W/m2 (electric field greater than 100 V/m or magnetic field greater than 0.27 A/m). This document focuses on HPEM simulators with higher field strengths, namely radiation fields with a peak power density exceeding 663 W/m2 (electric field greater than 500 V/m or magnetic field greater than 1.33 A/m). The primary objective of this document is to provide a detailed overview of narrowband (narrow spectrum) and wideband (wide spectrum, sub-ultra-wide spectrum, and ultra-wide spectrum) simulators worldwide. High-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) simulators, as specified in IEC 61000-4-32, are not within the scope of this document. This document lists the relevant general descriptions of HPEM simulators. A database has been established by collecting information provided by simulator owners and operators, which includes technical characteristics of the relevant equipment. Additionally, this document provides some important commercial information, such as availability and operability.
