Scope

This document specifies the method, equipment, sampling and sample preparation, measurement steps, data processing, and inspection report for measuring the volume fraction and morphology of austenite in steel using the electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) method.
This document is applicable to the analysis of medium- and low-carbon steels and medium- and low-carbon alloy steels containing austenite with a grain size of more than 50 nm.
This document is not applicable to the analysis of austenite with a grain size of less than 50 nm, as austenite with a grain size of less than 50 nm will seriously affect the accuracy of the quantitative analysis results.
Note: The lower limit of grain size is the minimum observable austenite grain size. The lower limit of grain size depends on the equipment conditions and operating parameters.
