Scope

This standard specifies the reference model, interoperability reference model, and basic functions, OAM, and service bearer interoperability requirements for Ethernet-based passive optical networks (EPON) systems with transmission rates of 1 gigabit (1G) and 10 gigabits (10G).
This standard applies to EPON systems.
Note: 1G/1G-EPON is referred to as 1G-EPON, 10G/1G-EPON and 10G/10G-EPON are collectively called 10G-EPON, and 1G-EPON and 10G-EPON are collectively referred to as EPON.
