Scope

The procedures in this document are applicable to the assessment of exposure to radiofrequency (RF) emitting communication devices held or worn by a significant majority of the population. These devices may have a single/multiple transmitters or antennas, and the radiation structure of the device operates at a distance of no more than 200mm from the human head and body. The relevant methods in this document can be used to determine the compliance of different types of RF emitting communication devices used near the head and body with the corresponding maximum power density requirements. These communication devices include those used in conjunction with other RF emitting or non-emitting devices and accessories (such as belt clips), as well as those embedded in clothing. The applicable frequency range in this document is 6GHz to 300GHz. The RF emitting communication devices included in this document include, but are not limited to, radio transmitters in mobile phones, personal computers, desktop and laptop devices, as well as multi-band multi-antenna devices. The procedures in this document are not applicable to the PD assessment of electromagnetic fields emitted or modified by devices or objects intended for implantation in the body. Note: When evaluating the combined exposure of simultaneous transmitters in the frequency range below 6GHz, the relevant standards for SAR calculation are IEC/IEEE 62704-1:2017 and IEC/IEEE 62704-4:2020.
