Scope
This standard specifies the principles, test solutions, samples, test procedures, result calculation, reproducibility, and test reports for the quality testing of zinc coatings on steel products per unit area. The zinc coatings referred to in this standard include pure zinc coatings, zinc-iron alloy coatings, and zinc-aluminum alloy coatings (e.g., zinc-5% aluminum alloy coatings and 55% aluminum-zinc alloy coatings). This standard applies to steel products such as hot-dip galvanized and electrogalvanized products, for which the area is easily measured. Zinc-coated steel plates can also undergo zinc layer quality testing using the method specified in Appendix A.
