Scope

This regulation applies to the initial verification, subsequent verification, and in-use inspection of digital display monitors (hereinafter referred to as "monitors") worn on the human chest to measure, record, and alert the wearer of the personal dose equivalent HP(10) caused by external X and γ radiation. The applicable X and γ radiation energy range is 48 keV to 1.5 MeV. The monitors covered by this regulation must be small, integrated, wearable devices (excluding fixtures) with dimensions no exceeding: length 15 cm/width 8 cm/thickness 3 cm, with a total volume of 250 cm3; and a total weight, including accessories, no exceeding 200 g. This regulation does not apply to the verification of personal dose equivalent HP(0.07) monitors for weak penetrating X and γ radiation. This regulation does not apply to the verification of personal monitors for neutron and β radiation. This regulation does not apply to the verification of passive measurement devices such as film dosimeters, thermoluminescent dosimeters, or quartz wire electrostatic detectors.
