Scope

This document specifies the abbreviations of the base polymers in plastics, the symbols that compose these terms, and the symbols that represent the characteristic properties of plastics. This document only includes abbreviations with clear uses, in order to avoid multiple abbreviations for a particular plastic or multiple interpretations of a particular abbreviation.
Note 1: The symbols and abbreviations of fillers and reinforcing materials are given in GB/T 1844.2, the symbols and abbreviations of plasticizers are given in GB/T 1844.3, and the symbols and abbreviations of flame retardants are given in GB/T 1844.4. The naming of rubber and latex is given in GB/T 5576, and the naming of thermoplastic elastomers is given in GB/T 22027.
Note 2: Appendix A provides guidelines for developing new abbreviations, and Appendix B provides the symbols of each component in the abbreviations.
Note 3: Appendix C classifies polymers by type and provides the corresponding abbreviations for polymers.
