Scope

This document specifies the necessary design requirements to ensure the structural integrity of wind turbines. Its purpose is to provide an appropriate level of protection during the expected lifespan of wind turbines to prevent damage to them from various hazards.
This document covers various subsystems of wind turbines, such as control and protection functions, internal electrical systems, mechanical systems, and support structures.
This document applies to wind turbines of all capacities. For small wind turbines, refer to IEC 61400-2. IEC 61400-3-1 sets additional requirements for offshore wind turbine facilities.
This document can be used in conjunction with the IEC and ISO standards mentioned in Chapter 2.
