Scope

This standard specifies the metallographic inspection and X-ray photographic inspection methods for the welds of pressurized water reactor fuel rods (hereinafter referred to as fuel rods). The metallographic inspection method of this standard is applicable to the inspection of the weld depth and defects of the annular welds and sealing welds of zirconium alloy fuel rods welded by electron beam or tungsten inert gas shielding, as well as the microstructure inspection of the welds. Among them, the film method is only applicable to the welds of ZrSn alloy fuel rods welded by electron beam. The weld depth and defects of the zirconium alloy guide tube welds in fuel assemblies, as well as the metallographic inspection of welds obtained by other welding methods, can also be carried out with reference to this standard. The X-ray photographic inspection method of this standard is applicable to the inspection of the annular welds and sealing welds of fuel rods. The welds of pressurized water reactor control rods, fissile poisons, neutron sources, and guide tube components can also be inspected with reference to this standard.
