Scope

This standard specifies the test method for determining the cetane number of diesel fuel using a cetane number tester. This standard can also be used for unconventional fuels, such as synthetic fuels, vegetable oils, and similar products. The range of the cetane number is 0 to 100, but the typical cetane number test range is 30 to 65.
This standard is applicable to the quantitative determination of the cetane number of compression-ignition engine fuels. The samples are tested under specific operating conditions by a standard single-cylinder, four-stroke, variable compression ratio, indirect injection diesel engine.
