Scope

This standard specifies the method for determining ester compounds (including ethyl acetate, methyl tert-butyl ether, and dimethyl carbonate) in automotive gasoline. This standard applies to automotive gasoline with an ester compound concentration of 50 mg/L to 2,000 mg/L. Although the method can also be used to determine concentrations exceeding this range, the precision has not been evaluated. This standard does not apply to gasoline containing alcohol. Certain alcohol compounds (such as methanol, ethanol, tert-butanol, and isobutanol) and ketone compounds (such as acetone and butanone) may interfere with the determination of ester compounds.
