Scope

This standard adopts an abstract approach and defines the externally visible services provided by the OSI session layer using the following terms: a) Primitive actions and events of the service; b) Parameter data associated with each primitive action and event; c) The relationship and valid sequence between primitive actions and events. The services defined in this standard are provided by the OSI session protocol (together with transport services) and can be used by those services employed by the OSI presentation protocol. This standard does not specify individual implementations or products, nor does it impose restrictions on the implementation of entities and interfaces within computer systems. Therefore, there are no consistency requirements for this standard. The text related to the symmetric synchronization function unit does not apply to the support of ITU-T applications.
