Scope

This document specifies two versions of the mapping from any XSD schema to ASN.1 schema. Both versions of the ASN.1 schema support the same semantics and can also validate the same set of XML documents.
This document specifies the final XER encoding instructions, which will be applied as part of the mapping of ASN.1 type definitions. It does not specify the syntax format of the final XER encoding instructions, nor their assignment order or method.
Note: The implementation of the mapping generation tool can choose any syntax format or assignment order to generate the required final XER encoding instructions. The examples in this document generally use the type prefix format, but as a convention, the use of the XER encoding control section may be the best way to map a complete XSD.
There are different (syntactic) methods of assigning XER encoding instructions to EXTENDED-XER encoding (e.g., using ASN.1 type prefix encoding instructions or using the XER encoding control section). The choice of syntax format is a matter of convention and is beyond the scope of this document.
